Ruckus
A breakfast meeting with Warren Kressinger-Dunn today led me to consider what an amazing music scene we have in Plymouth and a fabulous “Summer of Music” coming up.
As if refurbishing the VOT in Stonehouse wasn’t enough (if you’ve not yet been, I can highly recommend it), Warren is the driving force behind Ruckus, the forthcoming music festival at Plymouth Albion from 4th–6th July.
Ruckus features a lineup that includes local and cover bands as well as national headliners The Feeling and The Specials (who I saw play the Fiesta Suite in 1979 with Madness and Selecter in support) and is just one of many bands to grace a Plymouth stage over the coming months.
And talking of Plymouth stages, or more importantly, Plymouth artists. This coming May Bank Holiday, you could be in with a chance to audition for a spot at Ruckus. On Sunday, the 4th, and Monday, the 5th of May, the Ruckus 25 crew are hosting a two-day event at Steel Brew in the Royal William Yard that will give a special opportunity for up and coming artists to open the Ruckus festival on Saturday and Sunday, 5th - 6th July.
8 acts will be selected by a panel to play on Saturday and Sunday to open each day of the Ruckus Festival.
If you think you could be the next Nirvana, Robbie Williams, or Taylor Swift, it’s your time to let Plymouth know!
All you have to do to register is send a 1-2 minute video to enquiries@ruckus.live by 30th April with your e-mail and mobile number, and they’ll get back to you. Click the Instagram link below for more info.
Plymouth Summer Sessions
Next up on the BIG MUSIC LIST is the Plymouth Summer Sessions from Thursday, 12th to Monday, 16th June.
A 4 Day Festival on Plymouth Hoe with a line up that features Snow Patrol, James with Razorlight, Jamie Webster and Tom A Smith, Pendulum with Normandie, Hot Milk and Wargasm, The Corrs with Natalie Imbruglia and Dea Matrona as well as a host of support acts and possibly one of the best backdrops in the world, it’s an event you can’t miss.
Plymouth Argyle
Then, of course, there’s Plymouth Argyle’s summer programme featuring everything from the Sausage and Cider Festival with The Wurzles (7th June) to the Kaiser Chiefs (22nd May) to my personal favourite (only because my pal Martin Worth will feature his new band there) One Night In Nashville, taking place on 25th July. You can see details of this and more on ther Plymouth Argyle Website
But the music doesn’t stop there
There’s the BIG Tribute Festival 2025, which will bring the BEST UK tribute acts over 4 days in Central Park from 31st July to 3 August.
You’ll find details on Facebook or the Big Tribute Festival Website
There’s a whole stack of events at Steel Brew from local favourites, Mad Dog Mcrea, to the Old Time Sailors
And then, of course, all the regular weekly spots in pubs and clubs across the city, details of which you’ll find on the Plymouth Live Website
And that’s before we even begin to consider opera, classics and more, all of which we’ll be featuring on wowplymouth.com when we go live on 5th May

We're still in need of a mid size venue of c1k-2k. There was talk of the old ABC cinema being redone but I don't think the funding could stack up
